Meet Susan

Susan McKelvy (she/her) is passionate about mental health and has spent nearly 20 years working with clients that have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect, sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, and more. Susan knows that reaching out for therapy can be a scary and confusing process and yet we all need support and help at times.

Whether it's navigating recent changes in your life or facing life changing or traumatic events, she is here to help you navigate through this process.

Susan began her career working at Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support where she worked for 8 years, starting as a therapist, and then moving into the role of Assistant Clinical Director, providing clinical services, supervision, and expert testimony in domestic violence.

Susan has since worked for Dallas ISD as a therapist and a manager overseeing The Eddie Bernice Johnson Youth and Family Clinic, serving Fair Park and South Dallas. The clinics are a partnership with Parkland Health and provide medical and mental health services to students and families in Dallas ISD. Most recently, Susan was the National Conference Director for New Friends New Life, a non-profit providing support and services to adult and teen women survivors of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Susan is trained in several evidenced-based treatment modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She has also received trainings in Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) and play therapy.

Susan’s therapeutic style is a strengths-based approach that focuses on building confidence and self-determination for her clients. Susan loves to laugh and would love to connect with you.

Susan is currently accepting new adult and adolescent clients.

Susan graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and the University of North Texas with a Master’s in Counseling.
